Who doesn’t love pesto? Seriously. It’s amazing in pasta dishes, on bread or even chicken. Also, I should confess that I am a huge fan of anything with basil so naturally, pesto is one of my go-to sauces when cooking at home.
Recently I had the pleasure of trying She’s Pesto from Steven’s Harvest Market , a company founded here in Charlotte by Ellen Stevens. She’s Pesto is not your average jarred pesto that you would typically find in the grocery store and that may be why it’s called “Charlotte’s Local Pesto”. This pesto is made using only the best ingredients and locally, sustainably grown basil from area farmers. It’s sold in several stores around Charlotte including Atherton’s Queen City Pantry, Carolina Fish Market, Providence Produce, Renfrows, and Pure Pizza’s new sustainable Saturday market at The Barn.
She’s Pesto is sold in frozen cubes to make it easier for the home chef to preserve the integrity of the ingredients. The cubes make cooking with pesto very convenient. Just drop a pesto cube in a pot or saucepan, and you’re well on your way to a delicious dish made with local ingredients. You’re also not left with half a jar of pesto that may go bad just sitting in your fridge.
So far, I’ve tried She’s Pesto in 2 dishes but my favorite was the Tortilla Pizza made with the pesto, sundried tomatoes, rotisserie chicken, feta cheese, spinach and balsamic glaze. I’ll be making this again very soon, for sure. The pesto was very rich and flavorful and tasted much more authentic than pesto sauces I had previously purchased from the grocery store.
