The folks at The Unknown Brewing Company follow the motto of “Live Without Boundaries” and this seems to hold true for their upcoming beer release. The brewery calls this beer, La Jordana del Escorpion en Fuego Hacia la casa del Chupacabra muerto. This roughly translates to “The Path of the Fiery Scorpion through the House of the Dead Chupacabra”. Obviously easy enough to remember, especially when actually drinking beer…
“Escorpion en Fuego”, for short, is a 10.1% ABV Mexican Imperial Lager brewed with agave nectar, serrano peppers, and aged on tequila oak staves. This in itself makes for an interesting beer but the brewery decided this obviously wasn’t enough. Unknown also brews this beer with 99 real scorpions (don’t worry, they’re food grade). When asked if these scorpions would affect the flavor, head brewer and owner Brad Shell responded “I’m not sure, that’s not the point. The point is this beer needs scorpions. Some things just have to happen”. And who are we to argue?!
Escorpion en Fuego is scheduled to release on November 1, The Day of the Dead, in the brewery’s taproom. The release event will include a Mariachi band and death mask face painting. Escorpion en Fuego will be available in screen-printed 22oz bottles and on draft. Let us know if you make it out to the release and survive drinking the new scorpion brew.
