Restaurateurs Patrick Whalen, Ayman Kamel, Alejandro Torio and Jamie Lynch are announcing their plans to open a third location of 5Church in Midtown Atlanta early in the first quarter of 2016. The restaurant, which has an existing location in Charlotte and a second opening in Charleston, will be located at 1197 Peachtree Street NE. Serving lunch and dinner daily along with weekend brunch, 5Church offers a technique-driven menu that blends a casual, yet refined dining approach for a memorable experience. The name of the restaurant comes from its original location, the corner of 5th and Church Street, in Uptown Charlotte.

“We love the growth that’s happening in Atlanta and feel there is a lot of continuity between Charlotte, Charleston and Atlanta,” explains Kamel, who will be moving to Atlanta with his family to operate 5Church locally. “We look forward to enhancing the Midtown restaurant scene with a 360-degree dining experience that blends award-winning food with top rate service and nationally acclaimed design.”

The team behind 5Church brings a wealth of operations, marketing and culinary talent to the table and credits their combined forces for the success of their dining concept.

At 5Church, guests will be drawn to the restaurant’s eye-catching design. The restaurant speaks to guests who are looking for a top-notch meal and the service to match but who are also in search of an ambiance that reaches beyond the typical restaurant environs. The neo-Victorian décor features white concrete bars, black leather banquettes, imaginative chandeliers and large-scale artwork created by local artists. The hand-painted ceiling will feature Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” in its entirety. 5Church will seat 185 guests downstairs with an additional rooftop dining space upstairs.

Jamie Lynch, who is both a partner and the restaurant’s executive chef, boasts an impressive culinary background including Le Cirque, Aureole and Café Boulud, as well as Blue and Barrington’s in Charlotte. Since opening 5Church, he has been recognized as Charlotte Magazine’s Best Chef for the past three consecutive years. His menu will feature many 5Church favorites such as the famed “60 second” NY strip steak and 5Church lamb burger with red onion marmalade and Gorgonzola fondue along with new, locally sourced dishes original to the Atlanta restaurant. A 200-bottle wine list curated by an in-house certified sommelier and a selection of specialty cocktails and craft beers will complement Lynch’s menu.

The new 5Church location will be at Colony Square, 1197 Peachtree Street NE in Midtown. The restaurant will offer a private event space as well as on-site parking and complimentary valet. 5Church Rolls Out New Lunch Menu… And It’s Delicious.

September 17, 2014 by April Smith 2 Comments

5Church is easily one of the most popular restaurants in Charlotte. The hip restaurant is located on the corner of 5th St. and Church St. in Uptown and is usually packed with young people hoping to see and be seen. Celebrities are often spotted here and the restaurant has also made an appearance in several national top restaurant lists including Open Table’s Top 100 Dining Spots in America.

The winner of 5Church is definitely their dinner menu and nightlife fun including their signature cocktail menu and house music. With that being said, though, their new lunch menu is now making a name for itself. I stopped in last week to try the new menu and was surprisingly impressed. On the occassion that I have had lunch meetings at 5Church, I’ve always gone for the Romaine Wedge with blackened chicken and I promise you that it’s one of the freshest, most flavorful wedge salads that I’ve ever had. I’m a sucker for a wedge salad and the offering from 5Church hits the spot with it’s creamy gorgonzola dressing, crisp romaine, and balsamic reduction. In case you’re wondering, the romaine wedge salad made it’s way to the new lunch menu as well. Phew.

The new menu is revamped with a hearty selection of hot sandwiches, entrees and an additional list of appetizers. Just a few items added to the new lunch menu:

  • Italian Hoagie
  • Honey Mustard Chicken Wrap
  • Hot Roast Beef
  • Ham and Cheese
  • French Onion Roast Beef,
  • Prime Ground Beef Tacos
  • Mussels and Fries
  • Jerk Chicken Lettuce Wraps
  • Cornmeal Fried Calamari

My boyfriend and I decided to try the Italian Hoagie and the French Onion Roast Beef. Both sandwiches were accompanied with fries, although you can substititue other sides if you’d like. I tasted both sandwiches and the French Onion Roast Beef (pictured below) won over my heart, which is odd because I’ve never ordered French Onion Soup in my life. (The soggy crouton thing has always creeped me out.)

The French Onion Roast Beef sandwich was delicious. The bread was soft and warm, the melted cheese was gooey, and the roast beef was extremely juicy and flavorful. The sandwich was a tad bit messy because of the shallot sauce but was nothing that I couldn’t handle.

The Italian Hoagie (below) was also a homerun. My boyfriend favored the Hoagie over the French Onion Roast Beef sandwich… good thing considering that meant more roast beef for me!

The Italian Hoagie was stuffed with italian meats, provolone cheese, peppadew peppers and peperoncini. The bread was a little crusty but held up well with all that meat and toppings. My only complaint of the two dishes was that the fries were on the saltier side but still had delicious seasoning nonetheless.

The new lunch menu at 5Church is a must-try. Whether you work in Uptown or are just passing through for meetings, the new menu is inexpensive (sandwiches range from $8 to $11) and a nice change from the usual lunch fare of sandwiches and salads.
