My office is on Morehead Street in Uptown, not far from the Panthers stadium, so lunch at Picante is pretty convenient. I’ve been there now a few times and it has definitely grown on me. I’m not a huge Mexican cuisine person. My friend Lindsey and her sisters could eat Mexican every single day of their lives but I’ve never been that kind of girl. Once a month is good enough for me. (I write this as I’ve eaten Mexican twice already this week. Oops.)
Picante Mexican Grill is located in the same building as the Burger Company and the Rhino Market & Deli. Parking can be pretty tricky here during the week. Street parking is limited sometimes with construction or road work so the nearby parking lots seem to be your best bet. Today I parked in the lot behind Uptown Cycles with no problem.
Picante serves fare very similar to that of Chipotle: huge burritos, burrito bowls, tacos, and salad bowls. You order food exactly as you would at Chipotle as well: Pick your protein, beans, cheese, salsa, toppings, etc. Once your burrito or tacos are made, you pay for your meal at a cash register.
The employees at Picante are aways very friendly and the food is ready in no time. This place always seems to be busy during lunch on the weekdays and the patio fills up quickly on warm days. They also offer daily specials, such as Free Soft Drink with a burrito or burrito bowl on Thursdays. The prices are very reasonable (I paid $14 for two of us to have lunch today) and I’ve never had to wait too long to order.
Today I ordered 2 chicken tacos with chips & salsa. Everything was tasty as always. My only complaint today was that the chicken in my tacos seemed a bit overdone. But besides that, I really like Picante for a quick lunch when I’m in the area.
